"awakened" review and giveaway!!

Is this how you feel about your teaching job?

If so, you're in luck! Angela Watson (of The Cornerstone For Teachers) has written a new book where she addresses how to avoid cynicism, discouragement, and burn-out by having a positive mindset.

I was so thankful to have the opportunity to review Awakened. It came at a good time: my summer is halfway over (sigh...), and I've been super apprehensive about this fall. I'll be teaching Kindergarten for the first time, and I'll be partnered with a general education teacher who is less than competent.

And, if I'm going to be honest, I've had a lot of the negative thoughts throughout my six years of teaching that Angela outlines in the book. I've been a worry-er. I've jumped to pessimistic conclusions. I've taken things personally. I've stressed out about the what-ifs.

But all that can change! Angela shows that through positive self-talk and reframing, you can transform your mindset! She takes you through step by step in an easy-to-read, relate-able, and relevant way. This book is valuable to every teacher, no matter where they are in their journey!

Would you like to win a copy? I thought so!

This book sounds great! I would love to read it!

One thing I'm looking forward to next year is piloting a new hands-on social studies curriculum and trying tons of new teaching strategies I learned at a Quantum Learning training this summer!

I am looking forward to working with the same group of kids (now 5th graders) that I had last year as 4th graders. I am a special education teacher, so I really get to see them grow and change as students over a 2 year period! Some of these kids I had when they were in 2nd grade, so our student-teacher connection is very strong! I'm excited!

I am looking forward to continuing to see the kids I work with grow. I got the chance to work with them last year as 6th graders, and will continue working with them in 7th grade. I miss their laughter and their corny jokes and their positive, determined outlook.

I would love to win this book for my sister, who is a teacher's assistant and has discovered the joy of working with first graders. She does not look forward to getting up early in the morning – but, who does?

New students, new opportunities for wonder. The part about kids discovering something for themselves, or me discovering something about my process, never ever gets old.

I'm starting to get a little nervous as well.

My positive thing: I'm starting at a new school in a high school, which is where I've been wanting to be for a while.

Ok, I am looking forward to the possibility that our principal has been canned and we will have someone, anyone, better to start off this school year. It's a vicious rumor, but I am starting to believe she may really be gone!!

I forgot to tell you what I am looking forward to next year... LOL

I am looking forward to meeting new students and help them become better readers. I hope to teach even the youngest kidos of love of books and stories!

I am hoping to get a new job before school starts - but if I stay at my current job, I am looking forward to learning about the new math curriculum that is being purchased for 3rd and 4th grade. I am a special education teacher and I teach grades K-5.

I'm looking forward to teaching the same students for the second year in a row. I'm also looking forward to teaching the same levels again (= no change there).
