We're reading a story this week about Tomas Rivera (a famous author). I sat my first graders down in a circle in front of me and we all opened our books.
The first line read: "Tomas Rivera was born in Texas."
I paused dramatically, wanting them to make a personal connection like 'hey, that's where we live!' So I said:
"Tomas Rivera was born in TEXAS?! Where do WE live?"
The responses were just as enthusiastic as my question and were shouted triumphantly and simultaneously by three of my students:
"At HOME!"
"At SCHOOL!"
"MEXICO!!!!!!!"

Hahaha! Just read that one aloud to my husband and he's cracking up, too :) The "At school!" one is awesome.
Yep, sounds like my kiddos and they are in 3rd grade! haha
Sorry about that post above !
I read this to my husband. We both cracked up!
Hilarious ! Thanks for sharing!
Oh but you see, people, I teach 6th-8th grade and sadly, these would be the same answers. And we don't live ANYWHERE NEAR MExico!! It's fantastic when the principal walks in and you're asking a question that you are certain is a no brainer and they come up with the dumbest things because they think any answer will please you.
OH!!! This one sounds SO familiar! I have 2nd/3rd combo and some of the things I hear daily amaze me! Often if we discuss a nearby city I hear that it is NOT in our State.... Oh boy
Hah! How could they possibly live in the same place as the book!
