Is it just me, or does time move more slowly nearing the last day of school? We've been "busy" with extra long recesses, awards ceremonies, career day, and cleaning out classrooms.
Technically the last day of school is next Thursday, but full-on babysitting mode has already begun! Tomorrow is our campus wide Field Day. Field Day is basically a few hundred kids running around in the sweltering heat while the teachers "supervise" their stations. The upside? We get to carry around squirt guns and spray the kids!!
Here's a picture of me during last year's Field Day. It was 98 degrees out there:
Tomorrow it's *only* supposed to be 95 and sunny. If you don't hear from me this weekend, it's because I've MELTED!

Thoughts of a Third Grade Teacher
LOL I love the title of this post!
I am amazed at how many students have totally checked out. We still have 10 days to go!
Live it up - we're at a shivvvering 55 degrees right now, and no sunshine in the seven day forecast. Why on earth do we live here??
School for our students ended today. I cried tears of joy...
We call it "water play" and they are by far the best days at school ever. There is nothing like being able to chuck a water balloon at the kiddo's.
At least you have waterguns!
I know one of the guys at the kid's school looks forward to field day every year because he get's to man the hose. He soaks those monsters.
But yesterday was the 6th grade vs teacher flag football game.
Some of the teachers were wearing shirts that said : "Kid, I love you but you are going down!"
we still have several more weeks. i keep their nose to the grindstone right up until the end. no babysitting for me!!
I'd be doing my homework for sure... you look mighty scary with that weaponry! :)
And by the way - I'm cracking up because squirt guns are kryptonite for kids with hearing aids! Can't tell you how many times I sprayed my sister with the hose and screamed, "YOU CAN'T GET ME BACK!!!" A wee bit mean, no?
Hahaha! You just brought up so many memories of being in school. I always thought summer took too long to get there...then by the end of summer I thought school was taking too long to come back around. LOL! Those last days of the school year were always the best!
Three more weeks for us....but we're getting there! The thermometer thinks it's full-on summer, though. May have to institute those water guns! Happy squirting!
My kids love field day, but I think out no tolerance policy would include water guns. I'm pretty sure it even covers little toy guns that come with tiny action figures.
