Picture this: It's your first day of Kindergarten. You have your backpack all ready to go; you've eaten a great breakfast, and you are wearing your shiny new clothes. You're waiting at the bus stop.
Except.... the bus never comes.
This is going to be a reality for my students with hearing loss come Monday. We changed IEP software systems over the summer and not everyone's transportation information got switched over. And since we're a regional program, my kids are bused in from up to 30 miles away... which means if mom and dad both work, they can't just swing by the school to drop off their child!
We've been on the phone with transportation (who've been inundated with similar calls across the district) all week and still everything is up in the air. They don't have a timeline for when everyone's info will be switched to the new system.
Which means: not only is there a good chance that none of my nine kiddos will show up on Monday, they may not even show up the whole first week!!

You see we would never have that problem...we also bus the kids in from great distances but I can almost say with 99% guarantee that the kids would manage to find themselves on campus even if that meant mom and dad put their kid in a cab and ship them to us (that actually happened a few times). But lucky/unlucky you for having extra time to prep now :)
Oh no! I hope that they work out this problem!
That's crazy! What a nightmare for everybody--the transportation people, the school, the parents, the teachers, and especially the kids! I'd be so scared and worried to wait for a bus that might not come. You don't think the parents would just leave for work without seeing their child off to their first day of school, do you? That would be awful. I'm guessing one parent will have to go into work late. What a pain!

My kids have a similar problem since we are a county program as well with buses picking up from all over. Many are low-income and have no alternate transportation. I hope at least some of them get to come!
nothing like leaving everything until the last minute. i simply will never understand why things as crucial as schedules get left until it's so late that when a mistake is noticed, nothing can be done. And then it's a crisis of epic proportions.
as cortney is alluding to, and kristin is worried about, it's always fascinating that the kids with the least means seem to be the same kids who manage to make it to school even when you are sure they won't. like when you hope and pray that maybe jo schmo will be absent that day.
Oh that is so awful. I'm cross on their behalf. Hope they do find a way like Cortney suggested!
Hey - extended summer vacation...
Oh no!!! Poor kids! That picture and the idea of the bus never showing up makes me so sad. I hope the problem is remedied quickly!
