Top 5 ways to ruin a first grader's day

Because of the holiday on Monday and our professional development day on Tuesday, we only have a three day week with the kiddos! It's the perfect excuse to kick the curriculum to the sidelines and do some fun and different things.

Today I read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (a personal favorite). It's great for teaching inferencing and drawing conclusions.

Later, we discussed some things that make us have a bad day. Here's what my first graders came up with:

1. when there's a bug in the house
2. when mom says no running in the store
3. when I have to play with my sister
4. when I can't sleep in the classroom
5. when I have to eat salad

That is adorable.

It's rough being a first grader.

I'm in a group called The Pickle Jar Players and we go around to schools etc. and read stories for about an hour. We always end with Alexander and the kids love it, too! It's fun having fun, isn't it...

I bet salad is really high up there on a lot of people's lists. Perhaps you can use these as threats...hmmm....hah!

I like that book, too.

A lot of those things would ruin my day. Especially the first one.

I taught jr. high English for nine years, which is why I now have a humor blog. I'm so glad you're finding it funny too:).

Let's see, I don't like having bugs in the house and I don't like not being allowed to sleep in class. But I like eating salad and playing with my sister. And I'm not particularly inclined to run in a store. So--things change.

Oh, I just remembered what my kids did when they found a wasp in the house while I was gone.
