I was introducing new vocabulary to my fifth graders recently. One new word was "invention". I had to explain what it was and I used a few examples before turning to the light switch. "Someone invented electric lights", I said, "Before we had electric lights, we had to use candles!"
Then one kid in the back asked me in all earnestness: "Mrs. B, was there light when you were little??"
I think I may have just sprouted a few more gray hairs....

Too much.
HAHAHHAHAHHAhahA...that is really cute though
Gotta love it. Luckily for my high schoolers' concept of age goes in the other direction: while working on a character description, we had to think of what age someone's hair starts to go gray. "Somewhere around mid to late forties," I told them, and mentioned Obama's gray hair.
Now - I am 58 years old and my hair is almost totally gray. Naturally someone wanted to know my age and asked quite sincerely, "Are you 45, Ms?" Uhhhhhh yeah. 45+ some
