even writing this makes me want to throw up

I had no idea what to blog about today until I saw my most recent comment from Unicycle Rose. She wondered about the M&M story I referred to in passing in my previous post. So, go away Inspiration, I just got a writing prompt!

I was five years old and living in California. I don't remember where we were going or why I was given M&Ms, but somehow I ended up sitting in the back of our station wagon. The back, as in behind the seats... in the storage space. With no seat belts. Because I guess in 1987 everyone wasn't all hung up about children's safety.

So there I was, peering out of the back windshield, eating my plain M&Ms and watching the traffic behind us. It was dark and I entertained myself by figuring out which side of the highway was going faster: the cars with the red lights stopped on the opposite side, or the cars with the white lights on our side.

I still hadn't figured out who was winning when I suddenly got very carsick. And I was feeling quite uncomfortable with my belly full of plain M&Ms. I threw up before I could stop myself.

I don't remember what happened next but I'm guessing that we had to pull over and mom probably got the fun job of cleaning me up.

And since that day, the very thought of plain M&Ms makes me want to vomit. Peanut ones? I love! Plain ones? Bleeecchhh.

Years later, my psychologist husband assures me that I'm not crazy (at least not in that sense!)... that I have developed what's called: "learned taste aversion".

So what foods make you want to barf?

anything sweet for dinner. I despise sweet in my "meal." I remember as a child growing up on my grandmother's farm in socialist Poland where you couldn't go and shop at a store so you ate what you grew...and my grandmother made strawberries in a creamy sauce on top of noodles. To this day the thought of that meal makes me want to puke.

Tequila sunrise....don't want to go into THAT...

Mushy bananas, because they're gross (but hubs will eat them!).

Popcorn! It makes me feel all yucky inside! Glad you found a writing prompt for today!

Since an interesting evening when I was an undergraduate, I can not stomach either eggrolls or screwdrivers (vodka and orange juice). Take my advice, do not ever drink screwdrivers while you are eating eggrolls.

Snails.

Ahh...is it weird that I'm trying to block out the M&M barfaramia and instead am dwelling on the fact that your family had a rockin' station wagon and you got to sit in the infamous backwards seat? p.s. Almond M&Ms are my favorite and I'm thrilled that they are available in my town once again!

Creamsicles. I remember being really young & Koo-Aid making red creamsicles instead of the orange ones. I tried them, & then I had my own barf-fest. I still don't eat them.

Smoked oysters... I won't go into what occurred at the church picnic, but suffice to say, everybody knows better than to serve me smoked oysters...

Well, the plain mnm's in my mouth aren't tasting so good anymore...

Soggy bread totally does me in. And the smell of Victoria's Secret Love Potion or Love Spell, whichever it is, always makes me queasy because I wore it during my first pregnancy when I puked at least twice a day.

Happy 8th Wedding Anniversary you Two Love Birds!

Make it special and memorable. We are so proud of you both. Avoid the M & M's though.

XOXO dad & mom

HA! I feel that way about Doritos... when I was pregnant and had morning sickness my husband would eat them and just the smell alone would make me sick! Still does
