goodbye and hello

Did you know that I'm actually two people on the inside? Yes, two. There's Summer Sarah and School Sarah.

Summer Sarah is relaxed. She keeps the house clean, she does laundry, she even cooks. She has all the time in the world to write her novel, to make her cards, to try stuff on the sewing machine, to read great novels. Fridays and Sundays mean nothing to her! She gets to spend every moment with her husband and they laugh a lot. Summer Sarah is very happy.

School Sarah is stressed out. She is always too busy, too tired, too overwhelmed. She thinks there's not enough time in the day to get everything done and this is exasperating to her. Working out becomes more of a chore. And household duties? Forget it! Fridays are her best friend and Sunday nights are her worst enemy. She doesn't get to see her husband as often, and this makes her sad. School Sarah misses Summer Sarah VERY much.

Max reminded me yesterday that this school year is going to be better than last school year. I'll only have eight kids instead of fourteen. I'll get to work with an aide in my classroom. I won't have that one kid anymore.

So maybe....

just maybe....

a little of Summer Sarah will get to stay!

The key is finding a way to incorporate Summer Sarah into the school year. I have faith that maybe Summer Sarah can hang around for a while. :)

You WILL have a better year this year. I just know it. And an aide on top of it all? I wish I could have an aide. Just think of me: I don't have a Friday-best-friend. I only have one worst enemy: Sunday night. Think about your friends.

You summed up how I feel every September! I love being a teacher, but when September arrives, I often wish I could have more summer vacation time!!

It usually takes me a good month to get back into a routine and actually fiqure out a good sense of balance.

I think that is just the life of being a teacher! I have friends who go through the same process!

Thank you for sharing!!!

I think most people have Summer/Winter personalities - not just teachers.

I hope this school year is better for you.

Yep! You summed it up well! I totally relate and am feeling a bit bummed tonight thinking about the alarm clock going off early and having to go to school. Have a wonderful first day back! It will sure be fun to read each others adventures in the classroom this year! So glad I found your blog!

As with many of the other teachers who've commented, this post could have come out of my mind. When staff members get together after hours, they often refer to my school vs. non school personality! Mr. Fine appreciates the summer Mrs. Fine, as well...although he does tolerate the school Mrs. Fine, too. My goal this year to to keep a bit of the summer Mrs. Fine throughout the year (perhaps the less stressed part?)! :-)

My husband is a teacher so I understand your schizophrenia! It's tough to make the transition, but I know you can do it. ;0)
